Hi Balaji,

It seems you have done a good job writing down your experience with journey planners. If you are still interested in the topic, it would be nice to get your opinion about a design for a new journey planner I describe in this article:

Ashwin: Well atleast someone finds it funny :). I'm quite happy the gothere people actually took the time to answer all my queries, so hopefully the next time something like this happens it isn't a complete disaster :(

What a funny writeup!

I'm glad you sent feedback to the gothere folks. Everyone rants, only a few actually do something that can fix the problem!

Hi Jussi,

Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed reply!

1. Well I can somewhat figure out where north is, so even that bit of information is quite helpful.

2. I know I shouldn't mention the competition, but streetdirectory.com's maps do have direction lines in them and that can be very helpful when you are very close to your destination. Happy to hear that this might be doable!

3. Yay, I look forward to the announcement then :)

Little bit geographically challenged? Pffft, at times I feel like I can't navigate my way out of a paper bag :(

Hi Balaji,

Thanks for an interesting blog post! You do have some really good points that are definitely worth considering. I am a foreigner and ended up working with the gothere people because I tended to get lost all the time, and the site that they have built really helps me out on a daily basis.

I do tend to get lost a lot still, despite the acquisition of a gps enabled phone, and some of the stuff you pointed out might actually do a lot of good.

1. Yeah, now, as you already figured out, this is actually trickier than it sounds. You can rely on the fact that up on our map is always north, but that doesn't help much unless you're equipped with a compass (which I've considered getting quite a few times after arriving confused from the MRT).

2. Ah, yes, it's a bit tricky too, seeing how our rendering system works at the moment. But it's definitely doable, and now that you mention it, it's something we should take a look at!

3. Yeah, that's something that we've been working on as well. It's a feature that's high on my personal to-do-list and I hope we'll get to see that implemented soon.

Anyway, good post and valid points. But that being said; you ARE a little bit geographically challenged. ;)
